Description

Step away from the beach resorts and journey deep into the vibrant culture of the Kenyan coast. This immersive, guided village tour offers a rare opportunity to connect authentically with local communities, learn about centuries-old traditions, and experience the warm, welcoming spirit of Swahili and Giriama hospitality first-hand. It is a heartwarming journey perfect for travelers looking to understand the real stories, faces, and rich history of Kilifi.

Our experience begins with a warm welcome into a traditional homestead, where village elders and families open their doors to share their way of life. Led by a passionate local guide, you will stroll through the village to see traditional, mud-walled, thatched-roof houses and learn about daily life, community structure, and deep-rooted coastal customs. You will get to see local artisans at work, watch traditional weaving, and learn about the sacred kaya forests that hold deep spiritual meaning for the coastal Mijikenda people.

The journey continues with an interactive dive into the flavors and rhythms of the coast. You’ll visit a local farm to see how staples like cassava, coconuts, and local spices are harvested, followed by a live cooking demonstration where you can help prepare—and taste—authentic Swahili dishes. The day finishes with a powerful, energetic performance of traditional drumming and dance, where you are warmly invited to join in the celebration.
